Climb Every Mountain is the closing song to Act 1 of Rodgers & Hammerstein's musical The Sound of Music, based on the true story of the Von Trapp singers. Having run away from the villa, Maria realises that she might be falling in love with Captain Von Trapp, jeopardising her aspiration to become a nun.

The Mother Abbess sings this song to remind Maria that she must look for her purpose in life, and that she must not use the abbey to hide from her problems.
